The blessings and the curses…
I’ve got good news. And I’ve got bad news.
The good news is – this is a short post.
The bad news is – this is a short post.
😏🤔
This chapter is incredibly prophetic. And that’s mainly the curses.
All of this horrible stuff – even down to cannibalism – is actually going to happen to them because Israel will choose the path of idol worship and doing all the things God tells them to NOT do.
The sad thing is, they had an option. God says, “IF you walk in my statutes and you keep my commands and you do them, then…” (and He lists all the blessings)
Leviticus 26:3 LEB
But if you know your Old Testament well, you probably recognized some of the curses when you read through that part.
“Yup. That’s gonna happen in Chronicles…” or “That sounds a lot like Daniel…”
God already knows. And like a brilliant chess master, He also already knows what His countermoves will be.
“But when they confess their guilt and the guilt of their ancestors in their infidelity that they displayed against me, and moreover that they went against me in hostility— I will remember my covenant with Jacob; and I will remember also my covenant with Isaac and also my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. And in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies I will not reject them, and I will not abhor them to destroy them, to break my covenant with them, because I am Yahweh their God.”
Leviticus 26:40, 42, 44 LEB
When I get up to the point on my timeline where I fail God or miss a moment or open door I could’ve walked through – I’m always unpleasantly surprised. But God wasn’t.
And He still loves me. ❤️
There isn’t a thing in your past, present, or future that catches Him off-guard. If there was ever anything that I did or you did that caused Jesus to say, “Nope. That’s crossing the line. I’m not dying for that.” He wouldn’t have hung on a cross. But He did. It’s a matter of historic record.
God knew Israel was going to blow it. And He still loved them. He still promised to not break His covenant with them.
We can’t get our heads around that kind of faithfulness. May you rest in His faithful, covenant love this weekend.
See you Monday for the closing chapter of Leviticus…
