Joshua 11-12

“When you go out to fight your enemies and you face horses and chariots and an army greater than your own, do not be afraid. The Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you!”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭20‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I wonder if Joshua reminded Israel’s army of this when they were faced with the combined armies of the cites in central Canaan. we should always remember:

God does not require favorable odds.

Here’s your daily reminder that the slaughter of all these people is a necessary thing:

“In those towns that the Lord your God is giving you as a special possession, destroy every living thing. You must completely destroy the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, just as the Lord your God has commanded you. This will prevent the people of the land from teaching you to imitate their detestable customs in the worship of their gods, which would cause you to sin deeply against the Lord your God.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭20‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This is the why. We don’t need the religion of child sacrifice for demon-worship to spread.

Now that the southern cities have been defeated, the kings of the areas in the north and central west converge to fight Israel. Here’s what happened on a map:

This probably took months, but more likely it took a few years.

Take a good look at this map. Much of the New Testament happens here. In fact, if you locate Shimron just north of the Jezreel Valley, then track a bit east of there on top of that mountain ridge – that’s where Nazareth will be. Some day.

A vast army “like the sand on the shore” musters near Merom. But instead of,

😰 🫣 “Look at that huge army! How will we ever fight so many?”

God’s warriors say,

🗡️🤨 “Look at that huge army! How convenient that they’re all in one place!”

This whole scene reminds me of this:

“Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great Euphrates River, and it dried up so that the kings from the east could march their armies toward the west without hindrance. And I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs leap from the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. They are demonic spirits who work miracles and go out to all the rulers of the world to gather them for battle against the Lord on that great judgment day of God the Almighty. And the demonic spirits gathered all the rulers and their armies to a place with the Hebrew name Armageddon.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭16‬:‭12‬-‭14‬, ‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

You may recall from the post WAY back in Exodus (or was it Leviticus? 🤔) about Har Mohede (the Mount of Assembly = Zion) being the location of this final battle. Armageddon isn’t a word. It’s a transliteration of Hebrew into Greek.

I find it interesting that the place where the “kings of the earth” in Joshua 11 are assembled together is “the waters of Merom.” “Waters” is term often used to describe a multitude. “Merom” means “height, altitude, elevation.” That’s pretty much what Revelation 16 is describing – a multitude assembled at God’s high place: Zion. Jerusalem.

Joshua leads Israel in a surprise attack (you know not the day or the hour) and, miraculously, this vast horde of fighters splits off and retreats in 3 directions with Israel catching them from behind. With the armies defeated and their kings destroyed, the cities are taken and Israel moves in.

MORE STUFF ABOUT GIANTS…

“During this period Joshua destroyed all the descendants of Anak, who lived in the hill country of Hebron, Debir, Anab, and the entire hill country of Judah and Israel. He killed them all and completely destroyed their towns. None of the descendants of Anak were left in all the land of Israel, though some still remained in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod.” Joshua‬ ‭11‬:‭21‬-‭22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Anak was the Nephilim ancestor of the Anakim – a race of Nephilim giants. Joshua rids the land of them. And every time I read the name “Joshua” I think “Jesus.”

If what the Book of Enoch says is true and the spirits of the dead Nephilim are the “unclean spirits” that we call “demons” then when Jesus casts out demons in the Gospels, he’s doing exactly what Joshua did. Joshua drive them physically out of the land. Jesus drove them out in the spiritual realm. And when He returns, He will drive them out permanently.

Who instigates the kings to gather against the Lord at Har Mohede (Armageddon)? Three demonic spirits. Three dead Nephilim. Just like in Joshua, the Nephilim are involved.

Notice the three places where a few giants remained: Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod. Those are Philistine cities. Where was Goliath from? Gath. These unnamed giants that got away are the ancestors of Goliath and his brothers.

The Philistines are the next bunch on Israel’s To-Be-Eliminated list. 📋🎯
