I’ve mentioned the scholar Dr. Michael Heiser who passed away in 2023. Here is a clip of him was just released and it’s a fantastic review and summary of the Old Testament worldview.

We’ve encountered “gods of the nations” before but it ramped up during Judges and it’s only going to continue. And it will be important to understand- “What’s the deal with these other gods?” “Where did they come from?” “Are they real or just imaginary?”

In this 24-min clip, Dr Heiser explains where the other gods came from and why they are identified with different nations.

Some chief gods for example:

Moabites – Chemosh

Canaanites – Baal & Ashtoreth

Philistines – Dagon

Babylonians – Marduk

Egyptians – Ra, Set, Isis, Osiris (and more depending on the period)
