In case the post from yesterday caused you some consternation or confusion.

Here’s the bit in question:

“I’m gonna say something shocking and controversial: Jesus didn’t ask you to attend church or give to missions or volunteer. He asked you to crucify the flesh and be alive in Christ and walk with Him in the power of the Holy Spirit.”

This statement is designed to shock and get attention because most people don’t deeply interact with ideas unless they get defensive about them. I guess it worked. 😏

😧 But the Bible says we’re supposed to assemble! What do you mean “Jesus didn’t ask you to attend church?!”

🤔 Where do we have Jesus saying, “Therefore, I say to you, build a building and meet there for programs.” Or, “I say to you, set up tax-exempt organizations for the purpose of ministry and give lots of money to them.”

Yes we assemble. Yes we give. And I do and you do and we need to it’s a good thing.

But (and here is my point), there are people in Hell right now who attended church and put money in the offering plate all their lives.

Those things do not save.

Letting the Lord sanctify you- constantly cleanse you of sin and make you holy by His grace through faith- and being radically loyal to His calling and work in your life….

That DOES save.

“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’”

1 John 2 is all about this as well.

Saul did all the outward trappings of serving Yahweh. He was given a new heart but he didn’t keep it in relationship with Yahweh.

“But He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me.”
