“A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”
Proverbs 22:3 NLT
Ahh, the golden text of preppers. 📦📦📦📦
Most translations give this verse a more immediate flair. The danger is visible on the horizon. It is definitely coming. The bridge is out. I can see it. Rerouting. ↩️
In its prepper application, this verse is read as if it says something like…
“A prudent person foresees every possible dangerous scenario that might happen, including but not limited to: nuclear war ☢️, an 🚀 EMP attack that instantly sends society back to the Stone Age 🗿, ☀️solar flares, magnetic pole shift 🌎, global economic collapse 📉, grid-down, aliens 👽 and the zombie apocalypse 🧟♂️ – and he takes precautions. He stores dried food with a 25-year shelf life, water purification, radiation kit, stockpiles guns 🔫 and ammo, gets into HAM radio 📻 , takes survival training 🪖and builds a doomsday bunker ⛔️. The simpleton (the non-prepper) goes blindly on (cause he’s an idiot and brainwashed by government propaganda 📺) and [deservedly] suffers the consequences. Namely, that he probably dies within 24 ⏱️hours of stuff hitting the fan. But if he survives that, he definitely gets himself shot 😵 if he gets within 50 yards of the prudent man’s bunker. So help me, God. Amen 🙏 .”
Survivalist 22:3 BGE (Bear Grylls Edition)
A lot of people have made BANK selling survival gear to people based on fear.
Now, I think wise adults should be reasonably prepared for emergencies. Having some emergency food, water, a medical kit, and a power source is very helpful when you have to shelter in place for things like power outages, hurricanes, tornadoes, winter storms, and Black Friday.
But I think we need to also check our hearts and make sure that our faith is in God, not in our bunker. And we should make sure we’re not spending our retirement money on pocket saws and portable water distillation kits. Or whatever kind of post-apocalyptic camping setup this is:

My doomsday plan is to run outside and get hit by the meteor ☄️ so I don’t have to deal with the zombies and aliens and such.
🧟♂️👽🛸
Y’all can have my emergency food kit. It’s in the spare room. Good for 25 years.

“Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.”
Proverbs 22:7 NLT
You may have thought Dave Ramsey came up with this, but no – it was Solomon. He oughta know. He was the rich guy. 💰
If you are in debt, you ARE a servant to the lender whether you like it or not. If you don’t think so, see what happens if you miss a payment.
There is a way to live debt free that does not require great math skills 🧮 or a 6-figure income. I have neither great math skills nor a 6-figure income but I have lived without debt about 10 years now. Click on the Dave Ramsey link above to learn how to get out and stay of debt and make wise financial decisions. The debt snowball and the “baby steps” work. “The lazy person claims, ‘There’s a lion out there! If I go outside, I might be killed!’”
Proverbs 22:13 NLT
If you are well and truly southern, you know of the late comedian, Jerry Clower. If you aren’t and you don’t, you have my sincere sympathy. What a treasure he was.
He must’ve been inspired by this verse of Proverbs for the story:
Lion In the Yard by Jerry Clower. 🦁
It’s only 2min long. Enjoy!
