These chapters continue the warnings to the citizens of Jerusalem (and Judah). Here is a basic (conceptual) structure that I see:
- Ch. 31: Woe to those who trust Egypt
- Egypt won’t help
- The LORD will fight for Zion
- Ch. 32: The Righteous King’s Rule
- A warning to the carefree women
- The SPIRIT will be “poured out” and the end result will be peace and a secure place to live forever
- Ch. 33: Woe to the Destroyer
- The LORD will fight for Zion
- Sinners are in trouble
- The righteous are at peace
It’s interesting to track the LORD’s “movements” in these chapters.
In 31:4-5, the LORD “comes down” to fight for Zion and defend it. In v5 it even paints the picture of the LORD circling above Jerusalem like a bird, flying.
In 32:1, the KING is dwelling and reigning in righteousness. The Holy Spirit is “poured out from on high.”
In 33:3, 5, and 10 the LORD is “rising up,” “lifting up,” and being “exalted.”
I don’t necessarily think there is some deep hidden meaning in that, it’s just something that stood out to me. It makes me think of this graphic:

Another repeating theme in chapters 32-33 is that of the fruitful land becoming a wilderness or desert and then being transformed back into a fruitful land. It seems to echo the idea of starting in Eden, losing Eden, restoration of Eden.
- Fruitful land turned into wilderness 32:10-13
- Wilderness becomes a fruitful field 32:15-16
- Fruitful land becomes wilderness, 33:9
- Zion is a safe and well-watered sanctuary, 33:20-21
I think if we could draw one main idea from these 3 chapters it is that the whole scope of the earth’s history is following a pattern. We’re not hurtling along randomly through space and time. There is poetry here. Rhyme. And anticipated repetition of motifs.
This is a good place to pop in a link to a video on fractals by creation scientist Dr. Jason Lisle. When you have an hour to spare, you should watch it even if you aren’t very sciencey.
Fractals are repeating patterns.
These are neurons; the cells in your brain. Closeup on the branches called dendrites.

They look rather like little trees:

Did you know that as you think, a chemical “breeze” blows through a VAST forest of neurons picking up information? It’s like a wind picking up the scent of apple blossoms from an orchard.
This is the cochlea in your inner ear:

Compare the shapes…

It’s ridiculous to hear evolutionists tripping over themselves to try to explain how this shape appears in all these scales.
I have a very simple explanation.
God like spirals. They’re useful.
This picture was taken by Google Earth:

That’s not a tree 🌳 or a fern. 🌿 That’s a river system.
It looks like the bronchial tree in your lungs:

It’s called a bronchial TREE because it looks exactly like a tree. (If you’re not squeamish and can handle medical stuff, go to Google Images and search: “bronchial cast” to see what the bronchial tree looks like when mucus takes the shape of the bronchial branches then is coughed up or surgically extracted)
Look again at the bronchial tree. Now look at this:

This is NOT a medical image of a bronchial tree. Nor is it an eletronmicroscope image of a neuron. It’s a satellite image of a river system. They’re all the same.
Here are a couple more pictures taken by satellite of coastlines:

These are NOT coastlines:

Those are the insides of geodes.
I could go on and on…The whole universe and God’s plan for it is built on repeating patterns. If we want to get better at Bible prophecy, we need to work on pattern recognition.
Read more poetry and listen to more classical music. 🎼 They will teach you to notice and anticipate patterns.
If you want to be VERY posh, do both at the same time- perhaps with a cup of tea ☕️ or a glass of wine 🍷 and a plate of cheese.🧀
