Whole Bible in 2 Years – Intro

Our church is reading through the Bible together over the next 2 years. I’m going to journal my thoughts (for your reading enjoyment).

If you’d like a schedule to read along you can download it for free here:

This is not my first trip through the Bible. Far from it. But it is the first time I’ve attempted to blog my way through. So here is ^ the rest of ^ my brief introduction.

(If you’re a “get to the point” person. Ho boy. Not sure you’ll like me much, but feel free to bail now and skip to the first blog post)

There are weird passages in the Bible. Some of it doesn’t make much sense. And the reader may be embarrassed about that. And when you Google for an answer or look it up in a study Bible or commentary, sometimes it only gets muddier. What do you do then?

If you’re like my dear friend, Tracey, you text Lacy and Lacy breaks it down and explains it multiple ways until it makes sense. I’m going to endeavor (by God’s grace) to do that for any who wish to join me here.

I make no claims of being an expert. I don’t read the Bible in the original languages but I’m not afraid of them either. (Love me some Hebrew!) I’m not a seminary theologian who writes peer-reviewed academic tomes for other academics. (Let’s consider this my peer-review.) What I am good at is pulling together lots of info, boiling it down, and restating bulky ideas in accessible ways. My friend Erin once said that I “put the cookies on the bottom shelf” for everyone.

Yay cookies! 🍪🍪🍪☺️

I want to help bridge the massive (and unnecessary!) gap between the clergy/academy and normal Christians.

This is what I care about deeply. I want the average person to read, love, and understand scripture better. And better. And better. (There is no short cut. It will take time but everyone can learn.)

Not everyone can spend years in a seminary classroom. But it doesn’t feel right to me that certain knowledge and interpretive skills are only available there. I believe they belong to every believer.

I grew up in church. Sunday school. Bible studies. Youth group. Revival meetings. Youth camp. Even Christian school and homeschool. Before age 18 I could tell you about the Missionary Journeys of Paul, the beasts of Daniel, quote entire chapters, name every book of the Bible in order from memory, and even tell you the difference between Eschatology and Pneumatology. But, it wasn’t until Bible college that I encountered the basic principles of how to interpret the texts. I was shocked. And it has bothered me ever since. Why wasn’t I taught this in Church?

So, if you are a pastor reading this, I plead with you to pull out your Hermeneutics and Theology text books and start educating the flock of Christ. If you already are, bless you. Thank you. Please give the saints the tools to rightly divide the word of Truth for themselves. Don’t make them dependent on you or church programs. Make them dependent on Christ Himself and the Scripture. The flock can be spoon-fed forever or they can be taught to feed themselves and others.

So- there you have my motivation for this endeavor. If this – my style, voice, worldview – is not for you, bless you anyway. Thank you for visiting. May the LORD give you peace and blessings on your journey. May you find what you need.

If you made it all the way down here, bravo. I like you. We’re going to get along swimmingly.
