Bonus Post – Habakkuk 2:14

We’ve already covered the content of Jeremiah 52 so I’m dropping a short post today with a thought about Habakkuk 2:14.

Last week we read the short book of Habakkuk.

🤓 Cob-A-Kook.

Right.

And there’s a verse in it that I’ve long pondered and felt I wasn’t quite grasping.

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Habakkuk was echoing a message given earlier by the prophet Isaiah when he described the reign of the righteous “Branch” from the “stump of Jesse.” Isaiah gave Yahweh’s promise of the “peaceable kingdom” where the wolf and lamb, the leopard and the goat, and the lion and calf are all friends; and where children play safely with cobras and scorpions and lead about little parades of bears and lions like Christopher Robin with Winnie the Pooh and Tigger.

After describing these yet-unseen wonders, the LORD says:

“They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭11‬:‭9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I recently went on a cruise…

🤨 Excuse me? You went on a CRUISE and didn’t take ME?

Sorry pal.

😎 I wanna go next time! 🛳️🌊🏝️

🐤 After the sea-sickness, I doubt she does another cruise in the foreseeable future.

🤨 Who are you?

🐤 I’m the cruise duck she found on the ship.

🤨 A cruise duck?

🐤 It’s a thing. Quack. Quack.

🙄 Oh brother. Now we gotta make room for this joker?

Be nice, Emoji Guy. Duckie is cute. 🥰

Hi everyone.

As I was saying…I went on a cruise. And while looking out across the expanse of water I finally got some personal clarity on what the LORD was saying.

Sunrise

Everywhere I looked, all the way around in every direction, there was only water as far as the eye could see.

That’s how the waters cover the sea. All you can see is the sea.

Unedited picture of Caribbean water. Isn’t it gorgeous? 😍

And one day, (sooner rather than later), the whole earth will be likewise covered with the knowledge of the glory of God.

Everywhere you look, as far as you can see, to the furthest horizon in every direction, you will see nothing but the revealed glory of God.

We will see God’s goodness in every flower, every blade of grass, every creature, every person, every beam of sunlight, drop of dew, and star in the sky. It won’t be obscured anymore by ignorance, apathy, disbelief, sorrow, selfishness or distraction.

The revealed character and glory of God is ALL anyone will see.

And that’s something to look forward to.
